K Siddaramaiah to take oath as 22nd Karnataka Chief Minister

Bangalore, May 13 (IBNS): Congress leader K Siddaramaiah will be sworn in as the 22nd chief minister of Karnataka here on Monday.

The oath will be administered by Governor H R Bhardwaj at a ceremony at Sri Kanteerava Stadium at 11.40 am where 50,000 people from his home district Mysore and nearby areas are expected to attend.

Before taking oath, the 64-year-old politician told reporters: "My first priority is to improve administration, which has totally collapsed. Law and order has to be improved and people should aspire for a clean and corruption free government."

On his election to the CM post, Siddaramaiah said: "In a democracy, not every politician can dream about the chief minister's post. But I was hoping this opportunity may come."

Ending all speculations, Congress Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) on Friday elected party leader Siddaramaiah as the next Chief Minister of Karnataka where the party stormed to power after scripting a significant victory in the Assembly polls on May 8.

The prominent backward caste leader, who enjoys a huge support base in the south Indian state, had a straight fight with Union Labour and Employment Minister Mallikarjun Kharge for the post.

Siddaramaiah, who joined the Congress in 2006, was earlier with the Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S).
