35 Women Employees from Railways Honoured for Outstanding Performances

New Delhi April 6, 2013: Thirty Five outstanding women employees of Railways were honoured on the occasion of Women's Day function cum Golden Jubilee celebrations organized by Railway Women's Welfare Central Organization (RWWCO), an apex body of the chain of Women's Welfare Organisations spread over all Indian Railways, here last evening.

Smt. Madhu Bansal (who is the wife of Railway Minister Shri Pawan Bansal) was the Chief Guest and Shri Vinay Mittal, Chairman, Railway Board was the Guest of Honour at the function. The programme was organised under the guidance of Smt. Poonam Mittal who is the President of RWWCO. Also present among others were Railway officials, staff and their families.

Speaking on the occasion, Smt. Madhu Bansal said that the women in India have emerged as great achievers in all walks of life and time and again proven their capabilities and mettle. She said that it is heartening to know that women employees in Indian Railways have shown outstanding performances in various fields. Referring to the RWWCO, Smt. Madhu Bansal said that this organization has completed 50 years of selfless service and has been in the forefront of social welfare activities not only for railway families but also for the nation as a whole. She congratulated Award winners.

In his speech, Chairman Railway Board, Shri Vinay Mittal said that out of around 14 lakh railway employees, there are around 80 thousand women employees who are giving services in all kinds of sections and departments of Indian Railways. He said that the outstanding performance by railway women employees is quite praiseworthy.

Smt. Poonam Mittal, said that RWWCO honours the services of selected women employees of Group C and Group D in the Indian Railways for their outstanding services. She said that the purpose is to boost up the morale of those women who show exemplary dedication, integrity and courage in discharge of their duties and who also work quietly in any other social field like hospital, school, sports, blood donation, family welfare programme, scouts & guides etc, she added. Referring to the activities of various zonal level welfare organizations, Smt. Poonam Mittal called upon them to continue their welfare programs with full steam.

RWWCO which is celebrating its Golden Jubilee Year this year, is the apex body of the chain of women's welfare organisation spread over all Indian Railways and engaged in the task of welfare of railwaymen and their families through various need-based socio-welfare activities. The organisation started its activities in 1962 after Indo-China war, and while the primary concern of the Organisation is the welfare of Railway employees and their families, it has always risen to the call of the society and the nation-be it environmental awareness, family welfare drives, disturbances on the borders or the natural calamities. It is one of the fore-runner voluntary Organizations in the country today.

On this occasion, special edition of in-house magazine of RWWCO namely 'Unmukta' was also released to mark the golden jubilee celebrations of RWWCO. A musical play "Aaj Rang Hai" directed by Gopal Bhatt and Purva Naresh produced by Aarambh & T Pot was also staged on the occasion..
